Curriculum |
| We offer
classes for toddlers, children beginning at Pre-school/ Kindergarten
age as well as adult courses. The School offers several instructional
programs: |
| * TODDLER/PRESCHOOL:
This is appropriate for ages 2-4, and the toddler classes require
parent participation as needed. |
| * YOUTH:
Children and youths attend classes divided into seven levels. These
levels do not precisely correspond to the public school grades, but
are assigned according to the age group and knowledge of German. Two
levels may be combined into one class. The minimum age for children's
Kindergarten enrollment is five years. |
| Level
7 offers instruction which also includes the literature, history,
and culture of German speaking countries. Students may have the opportunity
to take the AATG test for high school credits. |
*
ADULT: We have classes for beginner, intermediate, and
advanced level.
Enrollment
permitting, adult classes are offered on a beginner, intermediate,
and advanced level, with students selecting the class best representing
their proficiency. |

Teaching
Methods |
The
School supplies modern textbooks designed to capture and keep the
student´s interest, and employing both conversational as well
as grammatical teaching techniques. German is spoken in the classroom
as much as possible. |
Regular
classroom instruction is supplemented by other learning activities such
as German movies, lectures, singing, etc. Whenever possible, one half
hour per Saturday is set aside for these instructions which serve the
purpose to introduce students to the German cultural heritage, and to
train their ears for various German accents, and patterns of speech.
Class room cultural activities include: Halloween, Laternenlauf, St.
Martin, Nikolaustag, Weihnachtsfeier, Fasching, Valentinstag, Ostern
and Muttertag. |
In
addition, the School maintains a continuously updated library of
German books and videos for children as well as adults. Students
are encouraged to check out these items during recess. |
| Homework
is regarded as an essential part of learning and an extension of classroom
instruction, and is, therefore, assigned weekly. |
| Report
cards are issued at the end of each semester. |
